St Mary's Parish Church is one of East Lothian's most iconic historic landmarks and one of Scotland's finest medieval parish churches. Dating back to the 14th century, the impressive church dominates Haddington's skyline and has played an important role in the town's history for centuries. Following significant damage during the Siege of Haddington in 1548, the church was carefully restored and remains a place of worship, heritage and community today. Visitors can admire the church's stunning Gothic architecture, beautiful stained-glass windows and historic interior, while learning about its connections to notable figures including John Knox and writer Jane Welsh Carlyle. The church is also home to an impressive ring of eight bells, installed in 1999, which regularly ring out across the town.
